One Billion Rising is part of an international movement which aims to have a billion people rise in protest on the 14th of February, 2013 against the culture of violence against women within all their different aspects of life within different cultures around the world. The basic slogan reads “Strike, Dance, Rise”, with the intention of making a protest, a collective dance and a rising up against macho violence and to make people aware of this reality in different cultures around the world.
The promotional vídeo made for this event follows this line of sequences in its plot and the idea of the protest, dance and rising-up in protest. The creators of the video, Eve Ensler and Tony Stroebel,, have inserted four different scenes at different moments which evoke the Sanfermin fiestas. The relevance of these fiestas at a world-wide level and the universal character that they contain has been availed of by the creators of the video to reinforce their message. While the video has not been shot in Pamplona, but rather in Módena (Italy) it nevertheless manages to accurately convey the July Sanfermin fiestas in the streets of Pamplona.
