Touching the horns

Sometimes from pure ignorance of the municipal norms, other times because it is accepted practise in other towns with bullrunnings, and other times, perhaps the most common, is when there is simply no alternative to avoid some bigger mishap. The fact is, every day we can still see cases of the bulls being touched and, something even more difficult, the horns of the bulls being touched.

In the Running of the Bulls today, with the Victoriano del Río bulls, a young runner stayed holding the horns of a bull over several meters. In fact, as we can see from this sequence of photos from Carlos Medavilla, the runner first grabs the horns then lets go again and finally, he once again grips the horns with his hands.

It should be remembered that among the prohibitions of the Running of the Bulls, is listed the ruling that states “touching the animal or calling it to distract the animal, in any way or form, and for any reason, on the stretch of the course or in the bullring, and particularly to grip the horns of the bulls is all forbidden, except if it is done to try to avoid a goring”.
