Sólo el 15% de los corredores del encierro son habituales

Pamplona City Hall made 350 surveys “on site” during each day of this year’s Sanfermin fiestas just before the morning running of the bulls took place. The data collected reveals some surprising figures: only15% of the runners who take part each morning are “habitual runners”; 60% of those who run are doing it for the first time; female runners now go to make up 8% of the total number of participants. These figures suggest the likelihood of creating an anarchic situation some day, given the enormous number of rookies that are taking part each morning in the running of the bulls. On the other hand, this possibility is offset by the fact that an extremely large number of runners say that they know the rules and regulations (99%), and that they abide by these rules (99,7%) and an acceptable number of the runners make sure they get sufficient sleep before taking part in the running (76%).

According to their system of video-measurement, Pamplona City Hall found that the running of the bulls on Sunday, 8th of July, was the one with the highest number of participants when 4, 200 runners ran in front of the Miura bull-breed. This running had the highest total yet since figures began to be collected to find out the number of runners each day in the 2011 bullrunnings. The total number of participants in Sanfermin 2012 was 20, 700, – just 200 more than the previous year’s total. See figures for 2011.
