If you don’t have much time and you’re
really hungry you can visit different kind of
fast food places:
Pizzas
The pizza places are a popular fast-food alternative
and in Pamplona there is a Pizza
Hut, Pizza
World, Telepizza, and Domino's. In Sanfermin
all of them will be full of people, so you
will have to wait a little bit; be patient.
Sandwich
bars
A good French-bread sandwich could be a quick
and cheap solution to the problem of eating.
There are some bars which specialize in this
kind of sandwich such as the Bearin-plaza or Las
Navas. But of course many bars, without
being specialists in the field can produce
very good sandwiches, such as The
Niza, The
Jesús Mari, The Kantxa , The
Cofradía,
The García, The
Gotor, The Orbela,
The Campana or The
Mesón de la Navarrería.
And the good thing is that you can usually
get this service any time of the day or night.
Titbits ("pinchos")
Most bars will serve a wide variety of titbits
and many of these will be well-known for one
particular speciality, be it a hot or cold
item. Particularily along the streets of San
Gregorio, San Nicholas and Comedias which are
all within a hundred metres of each other,
there are some excellent bars which can be
recommended: Roch, The
Burgalés, The
Baserri, Ulzama, Anaitasuna, while in Estafeta
you have one of the pioneers in the art of
making fried titbits, El Monasterio. Nearby
you can also find the Fitero and the Jesus
Mari. In the Estafeta street is quite traditional
to eat pintxos at noon and the bars offer a
good variety of them made with typical products
of the region. In Navarrería, just beside
the famous fountain of Sta. Cecilia, where
the guiris jump from the top, there is a famous
bar which serves hot pintxos (fritos) of squid,
pepper or potatoes omelette; wonderful all
of them. There are always a lot of people,
but it’s worth waiting. You can ask to
take away.
The district of Iturrama a bit further
out from the old quarter also have a good name
for tasting these light snacks in places such
as El Labrador, Don
Policarpo, Cevecería
Garrick.
Churros
A dough fried in olive oil is as a breakfast
dish. Particularily after the running of
the bulls and helped down with hot chocolate.
La Mañueta specializes in making them
and has been opening its doors to the public
for over a hundred years during the Fiesta
of Sanfermin. Nowadays they open also some
weekends of october. Well-worth a visit.
The only problem is that they are so delicious
that there is always a long queue and you
have to wait half or an hour to get a dozen.
If you have been out all night it can be
a kind of torture. There are other stands
where you can get txurros as well, in Antoniutti
park: they sell typical txurros or big txurros
with cream or chocolate inside, chips, wafles… It
is not the same, but they can be eaten.
Food
Stands
Inside the fun-fair in Yanguas y Miranda
and the dance in Antoniutti there are
some
enormous tented stands which serve food well
into the night. Nothing special nor really
cheap but if there is nothing else going
at that hour of the night....They come from
different parts of the peninsula and serve
open-air meals: salads, paella (rice), fried
chicken with chips and green peppers, Parma
ham… Nice, but a little bit expensive.
