Pamplona-Iruña, July 10, 1999

Joe Distler, a veteran in the encierro of Pamplona (33 years running), was given a well deserved homage by the Hotel Maisonnave (Pamplona). The director of the hotel handed him a reproduction of the fountain of Neptune (situated in the Plaza del Concejo of Pamplona), in recognition for his 33 years of running in the encierro.

Joe Distler came to Pamplona in 1966 for the first time. Since then, he has been running in the encierros regularly.

In the 70s Joe Distler was recognized as a good runner, a purist one that runs without touching the animals.

This homage is part of the acts organized to celebreate the 100th anniversary of the birth of american writer Ernest Hemingway.
