Just a few days before the outbreak of The Spanish Civil War and the social unrest was obvious, even in the streets of Pamplona. Because, with just two days to go before the start of the fiestas, the bearers of The Giants and their entourage threatened to go on strike if their wages were not increased that year. In the end, the threat never materialized although we don’t know if the demands of the Kings of America, Europe Asia and Africa were met or not. Obviously, for the following two years the official celebrations were suspended because of the war, although it seems that the nationalist movement did make some attempt at some informal celebration of the Sanfermines. For example, there was apparently some kind of running of the bulls organized where some soldiers took the part of the runners and others the part of the bulls. There is no evidence that any gorings took place
