The well-known designer, Javier Mariscal, the creator of “Cobi” the mascot of the Barcelona ’92 Olympics, as well as many other designs, was one of the “experts” on the jury. His first words, after the announcement was to thank the organizers for inviting him to participate in the selection of the poster: “It was wonderful to be able to argue about the qualities of the entries with the other members of the jury and to finally reach a consensus with this winning poster.”
He stressed the qualities of the poster from Mikel Urmeneta and Marta Coronado: It is a very dynamic poster, which everyone can easily understand. It has a very well-drawn typography, with three basic colors which have a close identity with Sanfermin.” Mariscal also highlighted “the slightly sprawling shape of the bulls showing their attributes and the agility of the silhouettes” as well as the lines on the cloth which he thought were “fantastic”. He added that “it was a really great original work but that it would also work in printed form. It should go down very well on the public streets,” he concluded. He rounded off his discourse with a reference to the authors by saying: “When I saw it, I felt sure it was made by some unknown designer, and it was a big surprise to discover that it was the work of this designer who has Barcelona inundated with his tee shirts. And who, moreover, is a great guy.”
Another of the artists invited on the Jury, Mariano Sinués, expressed his pleasure at the decision taken: “It was time to break with the tendency of having posters with just slight suggestive strokes, and it was time to get back to a more “humanizing” poster, and to display that uninhibited spirit which is so representative of Sanfermines. Besides, he added; “It can be easily adapted to all the media forms, and it will surely help to publicize the fiestas.” Sinués recognized that the winning poster could mean “a small step in favor of giving more prestige to the poster competition”.
Finally, Myriam Anllo, the third artist on the jury, commented on the difficulty choice which had to be made, given the high level of the competition entries, “the highest level in the whole state” and she highlighted the “originality of the technique” and its “dynamic and youthful” character.
