Few surprises compared with these last few years. The children’s programs have been boosted as has the fireworks display. Heavy rock group “Barricada” celebrates its 25th anniversary with a special performance.
A total of 418 official events make up the official sanfermin program for 2007. The program was launched this morning by the interim mayor, Yolanda Barcina and the interim councillor for Cultural Events, Ignacio Pérez Cabañas. The printed edition will not yet be available as its publication must meet the approval of the newly-elected councillors who will take up office in a weeks’ time, after the recent elections.
Music and children’s events are once again among the strongest offers in the program. Local group, Barricada will have a special performance to mark their 25th anniversary on the 6th of July, with Barua as the support band.
The Plaza de Castillo and the Plaza de los Fueros will be venues for such groups as La Cabra Mecánica, Malú, THC and DJ AZ, Barón Rojo, Dream Walter, Los Ronaldos, Espiritu Contradiccion, Orquesta Mondragon, Tam Tam Go and Yamara among others. There is also a corner for Jazzfermin, on its 10th anniversary which will count on a performance from Chucho Valdes and Javier Colina in homage to Tete Montpliu.
The musical section is completed with some musical concerts in Basque language in the Media Luna park (Niko Etxart, Kerobia, Petti, etc) as well as traditional “Jotas” in the in the Paseo Sarasate, some folk music in the Bosquecillo and the open-air dancing in the Plaza de la Cruz, Paseo de Sarasate and Antoniutti park.
“Menudas fiestas” (high-wire fiestas) is the title of the program especially prepared for children. Once again it will be centred in the Conde Rodenzo square and will have activities from 11.30 each morning until 2.00 and again in the afternoon from 18.00 until 21.00. While in Carlos 111, each day, there will be events with clown and street theatre.
Rural Basque sports will, as usual, take place in the Plaza de los Fueros, and this year, for the first time, they will include personal challenges from among the participants. The International Fireworks Competition will once again capture the attention of the public, who will enjoy, among others, Vicente Caballer, Sirius Pyrotechnics, and Pirotecnia Martarello.
All the details may be consulted in the printed official program which will be edited as soon as the new municipal council is elected (within a week or so). The booklet has been designed by Jorge Martínez Huarte with the collaboration of various photographers from Navarra. 25,000 copies will be printed in both Spanish and Basque language and will be on sale for 1, 80 euros in the book stores of Pamplona as well as at the charity raffle stand. There will also be pocket-sized programs in Basque, Spanish, English and German and French. The winning poster to announce the fiestas is also available in the raffle stand.
