2.000 neckties pay homage to the dead from the running of the bulls down the years

10/07/2010. Special mention was made of Daniel Jimeno, and a wreath of flowers was placed at the spot where he died last year in the running of the bulls

Today, Pamplona rendered homage to the fifteen fatalities which occurred down the years in the Sanfermin running of the bulls. The act took place just minutes before the start of this morning's running of the bulls, exactly one year to the day after the death of the young Madrid runner, Daniel Jimeno.

2.000 neckties were handed out for free containing the names of the fifteen runners who died in the running of the bulls down the years. There was a short slogan that read "Simply, for all of you!" The event was attended by Juan Antonio Jimeno, the father of the unfortunate young runner from Madrid and he placed the wreath of flowers and a red necktie at the spot on the Telefónica stretch where the runner was mortally wounded.

This initiative was taken by the Toro Mundial members and, according to a statement from its promoter, Borja Blanco, to sanfermin.com, "it was an initiative that started out as a homage to Daniel Jimeno on his first anniversary but when I commented on the idea with my father, he gave me his go-ahead and we decided to pay homage to all the runners who died in the running of the bulls".
