About two hours after the death of the young runner from Madrid, Daniel Jimeno Romero, his parents and his girlfriend turned up at the Hospital de Navarra where the injured runner had been admitted that morning, when he was taken from the Telefónica stretch. The entrance to the emergency services of the Hospital was filled with journalists waiting to discover the identity of the dead runner and, as the family arrived, the mother sighed deeply and begged "let it not be him, please". Finally, a few minutes later, her worst fears were confirmed after the family had identified the body. His girlfriend, who accompanied the parents, stated that, "indeed, the runner had been carrying a ring with her name "Cris, 25/11/2003". Various authorities from Pamplona, as well as the medical team of the hospital, expressed their condolences to the family and made themselves available for any help that might be required.

It seems that some relatives of the dead runner had a house in Navarra, although his parents and his girlfriend were staying at a central hotel in Pamplona. As far as we have been able to find out, it is believed that Pamplona City Hall will concede 30,000 euro to the family in an insurance arrangement.
