The Navarra capital has been deeply shocked to learn the news that a runner has died in the fourth running of the bulls of the Sanfermin 2009 fiestas. The fearsome Jandilla bulls featured in today's running of the bulls. Journalists and spectators who were gathered at the Telefónica stretch where the fatal calamity occurred, all felt a shiver down their spine as they watched in live action the goring suffered by the young man. The bull gave him a fatal goring to his neck with a descending trajectory which perforated the upper left lobe and cut into his cava vein and the horn jabbed him in the aorta. The medical auxiliaries from The Red Cross immediately gave assistance but, it seems that death was almost instantaneous.
The dramatic events of today were to be clearly reflected in the discussions of the live TV broadcasts but at that moment the tragic news had not yet come to light. It was only known that four runners had been admitted to hospital after having suffered gorings and that eight others were also admitted with diverse injuries to the public hospitals of Pamplona. Some minutes later, it was confirmed that the runner who had suffered the serious goring to his throat had had a fatal outcome; the death of the young man, Daniel Jimeno Romero, 27 years old. The media flocked the hospital of Navarra to learn more news. The Mayor of Pamplona, Yolanda Barcina, and other authorities also hurried to the hospital where they received the man's family some three hours later.
The Telefónica stretch which saw the fatal goring has also become a point of interest for the media and general public this morning after the news of the fatality spread around the consternated city.
