Daniel Jimeno Romero, a young runner from Alcalá de Henares (Madrid), died this morning at a quarter to nine after receiving a fatal goring to his neck at the Telefónica stretch during the Sanfermin 2009 running of the bulls held today with bulls from the Jandilla bull-ranch. The runner was admitted to hospital suffering from respiratory arrest and the medical team could do nothing to save his life.

According to a statement from the Health Minister of the Government of Navarra, María Kutz, at a press conference, the young man suffered an intra-clavicle injury to the neck which caused him to lose a lot of blood and he was admitted to hospital suffering cardiac arrest at the Hospital de Navarra. Attempts were made to reanimate him, although it was already clear that his injuries were fatal, medical sources stated from the hospital. In the operating theatre, his thorax was opened and it was confirmed that he had the left upper lobe perforated, with the cava vein torn and the aorta with an ascending cut.

According to the statement from the Hospital, the young man suffered a goring to his left collar bone with a descending trajectory.

Right now the body of the deceased young man is in the forensic institute of the Hospital de Navarra and attempts are being made to try to identify the man. In addition, according to a statement from Yolanda Barcina, Mayor of Pamplona, the young man was wearing a ring with an inscription in Spanish (´Cristina, 25 de noviembre de 2003´), which from that moment had lead people to believe that the man is of Spanish origin. According to Barcina, the young man has a tattoo of an Indian on his right arm and, it seems that several families have already been in touch with the hospital, although identification has not yet been made.
