Progress of the injured in the running of the bulls

13/07/2009. The two runners seriously injured in the running of the bulls on the 12th continue in a delicate condition

A total of 11 injured runners, four of these from gorings, was the outcome of the sixth running of the bulls which featured the Miura bulls. Two of the most serious cases are in The Hospital de Navarra and they have been operated on and their condition is serious. The other two runners gored were operated on in The Virgen del Camino hospital.

At the moment, four runners are in the Hospital de Navarra as two have been discharged already. The two most serious cases are the two runners who were gored. One of these, P.T.L. aged 44, from Pamplona, was gored in the thorax and also in his left thigh. This latter goring with two trajectories, 5cm and 15cm were caused in Telefonica stretch. The other gored runner received the wound in Mercaderes stretch where he was gored to his right neck with a double ascending trajectory and the second goring to the rear wall of the pharynx. This injury required a tracheotomy. The runner is a 56 year-old man from Calahorra (La Rioja) with the initials J.G.A.

The Hospital de Navarra also examined a 32 year-old runner from Madrid, A.T.S., who suffered a goring to his right thigh of 8 cm and 16 cm in the Estafeta stretch, and he forwarded to the Hospital of Virgen del Camino for further treatment. His condition is favorable.

Also treated in Hospital de Navarra was a 32 year-old man from Pamplona, E.S.M. This runner suffered a light bruising to his skull on the Santo Domingo stretch. Another runner from Autol (La Rioja) aged 25, with the initials F.E.L. was treated for abdominal bruising which he suffered on this same stretch. The first of these two runners has already been discharged.

A sixth runner, R.T., from England, aged 21, was treated for a jab wound from the horn of the bull to his back. He has also been discharged.

Finally, from the bullring, a 19 year-old, A.K., was treated for light grazing to his body before being discharged.

Meanwhile, in The Virgen del Camino hospital, there are four runners. A 51 year-old man from Pamplona, P.A.I. received a goring of 20 cm in his upper arm at City Hall square and he was operated on and is now on the ward.

J.C.E., a 25 year-old from Noain (Navarra) suffered multiple contusions to his limbs in the Estafeta stretch and on being examined was found to have small jab of 2 cm from the horns of the bulls in his occipital area.

A third runner is a 25 year-old man from Barcelona, with the initials P.V.V. who suffered multiple contusions in Mercaderes stretch.

Finally, a 36 year-old man, from Madrid, F.C.G., was treated for bruising to his left ankle, which he suffered on the Santo Domingo stretch. He has now been discharged.

Runners from earlier days such as the North-American, aged 66, who was admitted to Hospital de Navarra on the 10th is making favorable progress after suffering hemomeun-thorax and lung contusion. Two other people treated yesterday for diverse traumatisms have already been discharged.
