In 1981, among some repartee and banter between friends, Frank Taylor and his friends from the Cervercería Estafeta Bar made about a dozen tin badges for the fiestas. In 1982, 1984 and 1985 there were no badges made but ever since 1986 the people have been coming to request them and, at present, some 250 badges are made.
Since then the badge of each year is the insignia of this Peña club. Each year, the badges change design and color and to get your hands on one of them you have to pay with a warm embrace. In Sanfermin this kind of thing is common currency and in this case it has become a characteristic of the Peña Frank. Frank, the mentor behind it all, is Frank Taylor, an Englishman from Dogmersfield. He has been coming to Sanfermin ever since 1969 with his family along with him.
Pilgrim, runner of the running of the bulls and a fighter against cancer. Frank Taylor is well known for his efforts in the fight against cancer. In 1992 his own son died from this illness. His son was also an aficionado of Sanfermin and the running of the bulls. After his death, his father made the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela from his house in Dogmersfield in England and he covered more than 2, 000 kilometers, in an endeavor to highlight the need to fight against cancer. He collected some 30, 000 euros which he donated to the Imperial Cancer Research Fund. On his way through Pamplona he was presented with the Sanfermin necktie.
As a runner in the running of the bulls for over twenty years, Frank was known for his good running at the top end of Estafeta Street and down into the entrance to the bullring. He gave up running at the age of 62 in 1993. One of his most impressive memories of the running of the bulls was the 9th of July, 1975 when he went through the entrance to the bull ring in front of the pack of bulls. There was a huge pile-up of runners in front of him - one of the biggest that had ever taken place there. He boldly managed to grab on to a hook from the wall and reach the fencing. At his feet, he saw among the wall of piled-up runners, how a bull fatally gored Gregorio Górriz Sarasa.
