The Sanfermin Livestock Fair is one of the most traditional events of the Sanfermin fiestas. In fact, many fiestas and fairs had their origins in their livestock fairs where farmers could meet up to buy and sell animals. The fair is scheduled not to start with the commencement of the fiestas and the best infrastructure for the professionals is a wide esplanade such as can be found in the Agustinos Industrial Estate, near the Eroski.
Today, the Sanfermin Livestock Fair only consists of equine animals (horses, colts and donkeys). These can serve for different purposes such as leisure activities, competitions, breeding or simply as meat. The potential buyers move from site to site trying to bargain for the lowest price possible. The animals are brought and taken away in special loading trucks. Most of the buyers come from the provinces of Galicia and Asturias and also from Portugal while most of the sellers would be from Navarra and the Basque Country. Many people turn up just to flavor the distinctive atmosphere of the fair which retains a festive atmosphere.
