Most bars will serve a wide variety of titbits and many of these will
be well-known for one particular speciality, be it a hot or cold item.
Particularily along the streets of San Gregorio, San Nicholas and
Comedias which are all within a hundred metres of each other, there are
some excellent bars which can be recommended: Roch, the Burgalés, the Baserri, Ulzama, Anaitasuna, while in Estafeta you have one of the pioneers in the art of making fried titbits, the Monasterio. Nearby you can also find the Fitero and the Jesus Mari.
In the Estafeta street is quite traditional to eat pintxos at noon
and the bars offer a good variety of them made with typical products of
the region.
In Navarrería, just beside the famous fountain of Sta. Cecilia, where the guiris jump from the top, there is a famous bar, the Cordovilla,
which serves hot pintxos (fritos) of squid, pepper or potatoes
omelette; wonderful all of them. There are always a lot of people, but
it’s worth waiting. You can ask to take away.
