Kukuxumusu will blend in the “tomatina de Buñol” fiesta with Sanfermin in this first edition of the “Jai Day”

30/06/2009. A new initiative where Kukuxumusu wishes to invite participants from other world-famous fiestas in order to pay homage to the the concept of the universal festival

The highlight event of Sanfermin 2009 will be the "Jai Day", a new initiative where Kukuxumusu wishes to invite participants from other world-famous fiestas in order to pay homage to the the concept of the universal festival. For this first edition, Kukuxumusu has chosen the "tomatina de Buñol" an annual fiesta which takes place in Buñol in Valencia. Each year this fiesta has about 40.000 participants who fight out a day-long battle of throwing tomatoes at each other in the streets of this small town.

This coming 8th of July, Kukuxumusu and a representative group from this well-known fiesta headed by the Mayor of Buñol, Fernando Giraldos, will meet up on some open ground to celebrate this central event of the "Jai Day", with a real "Tomatina" tomato-throwing battle in which Mister Testis -the Kukuxumusu blue bull will also take part- and just about anyone else who finds themselves in Iruñea/Pamplona on the day and who is ready for some wild fun.

With its Jai Day, Kukuxumusu's aim is to boost the concept of fiestas by inviting representatives from these other world-acclaimed fiestas to experience the Sanfermin fiestas and vice versa. It is hoped that this will be just the beginning of a long-term mutual development and already plans are being made for the 2010 invitations for Sanfermin. As for this year's event with Buñol, the second part of the initiative will take place in August when a delegation from Kukuxumusu and Sanfermin will visit Buñol to experience their "Tomatina" in a live participation.
