Lot of shoulder-high exits and lots of butts and gorings

15/07/2010. The Fuente Ymbro and the Victoriano del Río bull-breeds, both sharing the best bull award this year, gave the best shows of 2010

The Sanfermin 2010 bullfight week closed without having had any really memorable performances and many of the regular bull breeds that come to Pamplona such as Cebada Gago, Miura and Jandilla disappointed this year with their performances. there were a total of four bullfighters who received double ear awards and got lifted out shoulder high from the bullring - Joselillo on the 10th fighting the Dolores Aguirre bulls, El Juli, on the 12th, fighting the Victoriano del Río bull breed, El Fandi, on the 13th with the El Pilar bulls and finally, Sebastián Castella, on the last day of the bullfights, when he fought against the Jandilla bulls.

It was not until the 9th that the first good bullfight could be appreciated, with bulls from the Fuente Ymbro bull-ranch. Nearly all the bulls showed good qualities but the poor skill of two of the bullfighters, Antonio Ferrera and Rubén Pinar, when it came to making the death trust with the sword, meant that their work went unacclaimed. The Dolores Aguirre bulls were also worthy bulls in the bullring and Joselillo, on the 10th, was the first bullfighter to be lead out shoulder-high from the bullring.

TheVictoriano del Río bull-ranch performed on the 12th, and they also showed good qualities and El Juli was awarded two ears, despite getting his scrotum ripped open with a jab from the horns of the bull and this fact meant that he could no have his successful shoulder-high exit. El Fandi also had the main gate of the bullring opened for him as he was brought shoulder-high out of the bullring on the 13th when he fought good bulls from the El Pilar bull-ranch. The last matador to get the honor of a shoulder-high exit from the bullring was Sebastián Castella, with some Jandilla bulls who did not live up to expectations. Generally speaking, it may be said that the last days of the week-long bullfights were the best ones of Sanfermin 2010

Five bullfighters in total needed treatment in the surgery inside the Pamplona bullring over the eight days of bullfights. Francisco Marco, Sergio Aguilar and Morenito de Aranda all suffered injuries of diverse consideration on the same day when they fought the Cebada Gago bulls on the 8th of July. Marco was seriously grazed by the horn of the bulls on one ear which almost tore the ear completely off. This prevented him from returning to the bullring to finish off his bull. The matador, Padilla, who was awarded an ear, ended up fighting his bull in a pair of jeans after one of the Miura bulls tossed him on the 11th. El Juli, on the 12th July, had his scrotum ripped open which prevented him from being carried out shoulder-high after being awarded two ears for his fight.

The Institution that organizes the bull fights - the Casa de Misericordia - this year decided to divide the award for the best bull breed in choosing both the Fuente Ymbro bull-ranch and the Victoriano del Río bull-ranch for the bullfight trophy. The award for the best "death thrust" went to El Cid, for his fight against the bull called "Caracol", one of the El Pilar bull-breed on the 13th of July.
