Kukuxumusu celebrates Guiri Day, a day of homage to all their foreign visitors, and it has done so by handing over the VIII Guiri del Año Award to the North-American writer, John Patrick Hemingway, grandson of Nobel Prizewinner, Ernest Hemingway, who died exactly fifty years ago.
Kukuxumusu celebrated Guiri Day 2010, where the foreign visitors take the front seat in recognition for their fidelity and passion for the Sanfermin fiestas. The center -piece of the homage to the foreigners was a lunch where the VII edition of the Guiri del Año Award was handed over to the Japanese photographer, Chiyoshi Sugawara.
Kukuxumusu celebrated its “Guiri” day of Sanfermin 2009 by acknowledging Frank Taylor, an Englishman from Dogmersfield, as foreigner of the year. Taylor was handed over the award by Mikel Urmeneta, founder-member and creative director at Kukuxumusu, when they celebrated Guiri day at the Europa restaurant in Pamplona.
Moroccan, Massaoud Sbai el Idrissi was handed over the award by Mikel Urmeneta, creative director at Kukuxumusu. This award which the firm makes every year wishes to acknowledge the particular contribution made by some foreigner each year to the fiestas.
Kukuxumusu each year to a foreigner recognized for his or her special predilection for the Sanfermin fiestas. The Award was handed over by two founder-members of Kukuxumusu, Mikel Urmeneta and Koldo Aiestaran. The event was attended by a large number of habitual Germans who come to the Sanfermin fiestas.
Next Friday, 23rd of June the III “Foreigner of the Year” award will take place in Storvik, Sweden. This award is granted by the Kukuxumusu tee shirt company in homage to the many foreign visitors who come annually to Iruñea/Pamplona for the Sanfermin fiestas. On this occasion the award-winner is Lars Ingvar Jungefors, a member of the Los Suecos Peña, and a veteran visitor to Pamplona over the past 35 years.
The II “Guiri del Año” Award was handed over in New York to Lore Monnig at a ceremony held in the city. This award was created to celebrate the interest and passion of the foreign visitors who come to the Sanfermin fiestas, and it was bestowed by Mikel Urmeneta, founder-member and creative director of the firm, at a gathering attended by some fifty guests, all wearing the classic Sanfermin outfits for the occasion.
The Puerto Rican, Carmen Margarita Alicea Mirabal, who resides in Australia, was presented with an award as The Foreign Visitor of the Year for Sanfermin 2004. This innovative award has been jointly created by Kukuxumusu and The Maisonnave Hotel and has been awarded for the first time this year, coinciding with the traditional “Guiri Day” (Foreigner’s Day). The event took place in the Maisonnave Hotel and was attended by some of the members of the foreign peñas who are in Pamplona these days for the fiestas.
