Englishman Timothy Nicholas Pinks was today awarded the 13th Guiri del Año Award, an annual Sanfermin award which the Kukuxumusu firm has been conceding ever since 2004 to one of those many regular foreign visitors to Sanfermin who stand out for their passion and love of the Sanfermin fiestas.
Englishman Tim Pinks will be acknowledged as Foreigner of the Year in Sanfermin 2016 with the award of the XIII Guiri del Año Award, which is bestowed each year during Sanfermin by Kukuxumusu and Sanfermin.com to a foreigner visitor to Sanfermin fiestas and who stands out for their passion and love of the annual fiestas. In this, the thirteenth edition of the awards, this English columnist and writer will don the mantle conceded by last year’s winner, Frenchman, Jean-Pierre Gonnord.
This young heifer which leaped into the bullring on the morning of the 8th of July would never have imagined that it would feature as one of the most awarded photos of 2015. And now Álvaro Barrientos has been awarded the gold medal at the XII China International Press Photo Contest (CHIPP) for this shot of the young heifer leaping out of the pen and into the arena.
A Sanfermin snapshot from photographer, Joseba Etxaburu, has made the final list for the annual photo selection from Reuters for 2015. The snapshot shows a frisky young heifer charging into the Pamplona bullring immediately after the Running of the Bulls event, for the runners to play with inside the bullring. The photo was taken on the 8th of July, 2015. That same day, the snapshot was chosen as top choice from a list of twenty-five that is made by the editor of Reuters each morning.
According to what we have learned from the Efe News Agency, this snapshot taken of The Pamplona Running of the Bulls by Pedro Armestre has received the International Periodismo Rey de España Award in the photography category. These awards are offered by the EFE News Agency and the Spanish International Cooperation Agency and they are sponsored by The OHL. This award means a very important international recognition as well as a cash prize of 6.000 euros and the winner also receives a sculpture made by Joaquín Vaquero Turcios. This same snapshot was also recently awarded a prize by Nikon (see the news item at Sanfermin.com) as the best image of the year in the press category taken by a Nikon. On that occasion there was also a cash prize of 6000 euros and the prestige of having been selected the top entry from among some 450 professional photographers who work with this brand of camera. This award also helps confirm the photographic selection of Armestre’s work made earlier by the Wall Street Journa, Yahoo or elmundo.es.
