Frank Taylor awarded with the Guiri of the Year

Kukuxumusu celebrated its “Guiri” day of Sanfermin 2009 by acknowledging Frank Taylor, an Englishman from Dogmersfield, as foreigner of the year. Taylor was handed over the award by Mikel Urmeneta, founder-member and creative director at Kukuxumusu, when they celebrated Guiri day at the Europa restaurant in Pamplona.

During the award ceremony and later at the celebratory meal, winners of some of the previous editions were present. These included the North-American, Lore Monnig, (2005), the Swede, Lars Ingvar Jungefors, (2006), the Moroccan Massoud Sbai El Idrissi, (2008) and the German, Manfred Walloscke, (2007). In addition, a grandson of Hemingway, John Patrick Hemingway, was also invited.

Frank Taylor, aged 79, celebrated his fortieth visit to Sanfermin with this recognition from Kukuxumusu as foreigner of the year. The award was handed over in the Europa restaurant. The morning running of the bulls was widely discussed as the sad news of the deceased Daniel Jimeno had reached everyone by then. In fact, Frank Taylor remembered that during the twenty five years that he used to participate in the running of the bulls, he also saw the runner, Gregorio Górriz, die when he was gored in the stretch leading into the bullring on the 9th of July, 1975.

The event was also attended by some of the award-winner’s friends as well as by group of people from Kukuxumusu headed by the three founder members on the 20th anniversary of the firm: Mikel Urmeneta, Koldo Aiestaran and Gonzalo Domínguez de Bidaurreta.
